I bought this for my Apple iPhone SE as a more portable solution. I sold it a week later as 32Gb is simply not enough for 4k and the phone battery dropped really, really fast. A bit of a hybrid / VLOG test that preceded VLOG 000
So, hi there. This is Craven.
Now, a few people may be wondering, “Hey, wait a moment! How can this be VLOG#1? You’re already on number 5!”
Well, the thing is – everything in my life has changed. Now that I’ve sold my business “Kondura Technologies” of 20 plus years, made friends, colleagues, clients and customers (the ones who actually read what I post on social media) aware of my plans, I am now free to express myself and not be so vague.
We’re going to New Zealand, baby!
If you are one of those people and have just clicked on this video, my company and staff continue under new ownership. I’ve just decided I’ve had enough of South Africa and myself, my girlfiend and our three cats are getting the heck out. We’ve had enough. Other viewers, please note there is no negativity here. Had a problem. Found a solution! Stick around!
This “BLOG” is a transcript. The video above here and contains more “improv” than the text. This is just a summary. I will try keep all videos to about 7 to 15 minutes.
EDIT: added 2nd part below – see the new series VLOG 000
So, I am not a cinematographer / VLOGGER pro like Casey Neistat or Peter McKinnon. I’m just a guy with a website “wockster.com”, a webcam, at this time, a Logitech Brio web-cam and a better than average camera for photos, 4k video and the odd cellphone and I think the next few months are going to be really interesting and worth documenting. If I enjoy it, I may continue.
On the outset, this will appeal to three types of folk:
- Hopefully, it will entertain you and/or provide insight on emigrating to a new country
- It will be therapeutic and give me focus doing semi-regular updates.
- Maybe give me some exposure to the New Zealand job market.
Going to not bore you with what I do too much, but since this is the first video, just a few things about me.
I’m an ICTprofessional, manager, consultant, entrepreneur and apparently, un-employed as of the 15th January 2018 after I sold my business.
I’ve got a wealth of experience and background in the Information Technology and Communications industry. I understand the fundamentals of coding, databases, project design, forensic investigations, experience in training, marketing, management, consulting, planning in various sectors of the economy.
As an entrepreneur, I’ve also speculated with housing and some other ventures. I’m 45 and would have been more or less financially secure to just sit back and relax, but you know – life happened.
In personal life, I enjoy taking photos of wildlife, hiking and visiting new places, meeting new people. Sounds like a dating site.
And this is what this is all going to be about. Starting over. Now, this is going to be a positive VLOG series. No-one enjoys hearing people whine about how rough life is. They want to know how to succeed. They want to come here to a happy place.
Yeah, sure life throws curveballs, but I think I’ll focus on the positive because you honestly can’t survive it if you dwell on the negative – most people generally prefer just the good stuff. They want solutions, not problems!
So, I’m not going whine here. I’m going to try to avoid drama. I’m going to try not to VLOG about race, politics, sex or religion although I may skirt around some issues, but not the hyper-sensitive ones. There are just too many controversial things in this world even without those. Mention “BITcoin! Marvel vs DC or Apple vs Samsung” and you’ve already got a riot on your hands.
I guarantee you that pretty much every South African you ever meet just talks about politics and race. I decided a few years back that I just haven’t got time for dwelling in negativity.
If you’ve got problems like multiple people you know affected by violence, then have three guys breaking into your home with knives, government trying to force you to give part of your business away – the larger part – what’s the point of whinging and wallowing in self-pity, do something!
So, this series is going to be about sharing my life, new experiences, the struggles I am pretty much sure I am going to be confronted with and how I solve them, or intend to solve them.
Lots of exciting things ahead – selling house, getting over, finding a job, starting life over. Will show you around town and give you feel how things are here. Also, in the limited time I have left (hopefully) in South Africa, I’m traveling a bit around the country and posting about it, sharing the experience. I’m also selling everything, showing off a bit of “life in South Africa”.
I’m sure some negative things may crop up in my discussion, but please note that I’m detached from being emotionally involved in these. I have a plan and the plan doesn’t involve being negative, dwelling on the past. Build a wall, or get on plane and friggin’ move on.
One other thing. I intend once I’m in Zealand to really get to know the culture. It will be really nice to ditch all the baggage and embrace a new society, a new way of life. I’m looking forward to becoming a New Zealander, supporting their sports teams, learning their language and visiting their landmarks.
Always amuses me these people who emigrate from South Africa and then patriotically support the country they ran away from. Heck, if New Zealand, by their good grace, accepts us, I will cease to be South African and be a New Zealander.
It is going to be so amazing to live in a law-abiding, anti-corrupt society. Hoping to share the journey with you all!

Apologies for being lost in Action. Several new things in the pipe-line regarding moving on with “Real Life”
Met with prospective new business owner for my company yesterday. A few videos from my girlfriend and
myself’s trip to Hogsback, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
It is widely believed that JRR Tolkien was inspired by a trip he made to this part of the world when he was
much, much younger.
